Sample Three-Day Itinerary

Day 1
After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll collect you and set off along the South-Bank Drive—the only true roadway south of the Gambia River—pausing frequently in the charming villages of rural Gambia. Crossing the Senegambia Bridge (the only bridge over the river), we reach the sparsely populated North Bank. Our first landmark stop is the ancient Wassu Stone Circles. Next, the highlight of the afternoon: a private boat excursion into the national park, where you’ll observe chimpanzees along the riverbanks and pods of hippos in the shallows. Late in the day we continue on to Janjanbureh, board the small ferry to the island town, and check in at our comfortable lodge.

Day 2
We begin with a guided tour of Janjanbureh’s historic streets, then embark on a leisurely boat trip on the Gambia River, keeping an eye out for riverine birds and crocodiles basking on sandy banks. In the afternoon we cross back to the south bank, stopping for birding en route, and arrive at Tendaba Camp to immerse ourselves in its unique mangrove-lined creeks and tidal lagoons.

Day 3
An early-morning boat journey threads the network of Tendaba’s mangroves, offering close-up views of kingfishers, herons and crocodiles. After lunch at the camp, we return via the South-Bank Drive to Senegambia, arriving by early evening. This tour can be customized to two, three or four days—all elements flexible to your interests and pace. Let us design the ideal Gambia getaway for you!
