About a living book and 2 others

Male, female, juvenile, breeding….A little help for identification is sometimes more than welcome…..

More than 600 birds in a small Gambia, during your trip there will be all the time birds to see. But sometimes only for a few seconds, or they stay hiding in the shade, or flying quickly. So, for identification a little help can be useful. Some books:

  • Your most important book: your guide. A living, walking book, always available when birding. An often asked question: how do you become a guide? No, there are no ,guide schools”. And so, to become a guide you you have to accompany an experienced guide. No, not for 1 or 2 years, but 4 or 5 years!!!!!! It takes long time to become a walking bird encyclopedia!!!!!
  • Birds of The Gambia and Senegal from Clive Barlow and Tim Wacher. We like the title: first The Gambia, then Senegal. The little one before the big neighbour….. A book with all the info you need, written by great specialists: do you know Clive Barlow lives in The Gambia and published many interesting articles about the Gambian nature?
  • Birds of Senegal and The Gambia, by Nik Borrow and Ron Demey. The most recent book, favorite of many. A recent edition with updates, an absolute great book.

So, ready for the nature, following your living book. But for identification of the terns, we don’t think you need help…
